The sealing strips for doors and windows need to play an important role in waterproofing, sealing, and energy saving. They have functions such as sound insulation, dust prevention, frost resistance, and heat preservation. They also have strong tensile strength, good elasticity, and require better temperature resistance and aging resistance.
Currently, the sealing strips on the market generally include modified PVC sealing strips, vulcanized EPDM sealing strips, and thermoplastic EPDM/PP sealing strips.
According to statistics, the energy consumption of buildings in China accounts for 27.5% of the total final energy consumption of society. The energy loss from the gaps around closed doors and windows usually accounts for about 37-40% of building energy consumption. Therefore, improving the sealing performance between the window sash and the glass can effectively reduce energy consumption, especially the sealing performance between the window frame and the window sash is very important.
Modified PVC strips: They are relatively low in price, but due to varying quality, low-end products that use a large amount of substitute plasticizers and have high filler content lead to poor elasticity, easy hardening, and have an irritating smell. When used on doors and windows, they tend to yellow and have a short lifespan. PVC products contain halogens and heavy metals in their stabilizers, which is not environmentally friendly. Therefore, developed countries abroad and cities like Beijing and coastal areas in China have eliminated or restricted the use of PVC strips, as extensive use can lead to environmental pollution, and excessive heavy metals can cause discomfort.
Vulcanized EPDM rubber water stop strips: They are stronger in sealing elasticity and durability compared to PVC rubber sealing strips, but they require a microwave vulcanization line for setting, resulting in high processing energy consumption, usually over 20 times that of ordinary sealing strips, and the products cannot be reused. They are not environmentally friendly and are not products advocated by the state. Therefore, basic door and window companies do not use them.
Thermoplastic tri-ethylene propylene rubber sealing strips are a new type of material developed in recent years based on the introduction of foreign technology, combined with domestic independent research and development. They are mainly used for sealing automotive doors and windows, and in recent years have also been widely used in building doors and windows.
